Hywel Evans was born in Swansea and attended Grange and Bishop
Gore Schools before being awarded a sixth form scholarship to Chethams School
of Music, Manchester.
In 2005, he gained an honours Bachelor of Music degree at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where he studied under international pianist, Richard McMahon, Head of Keyboard Studies. Whilst a student he performed in several masterclasses with international artists including Alexei Skravronsky, Bernard Roberts and Malcolm Martineau and accompanied at a Walton song masterclass attended by Lady Walton. He has just returned to the College to study for a Post-Graduate Diploma as a répétiteur and accompanist, working with individual singers and ensembles in master classes, recordings, recitals and opera classes.
Locally, he has established a reputation as an accomplished and versatile accompanist working with Penny Ryan in coaching singers and choirs for concert performances, recitals, auditions and examinations. For four years he has been pianist in residence in the All Saints Alive Annual Music Festival, Swansea accompanying for recitals, choral events and the Gala Concert.. He is professional accompanist to the newly formed up-coming youth choir the Ariosa Singers and was highly praised in their recent Dublin concert tour. Hywel will join them this summer for a series of recitals in Prague. As a freelance, he accompanies many local male choirs including playing in concerts with Morriston Orpheus Choir, the Gwalia Singers, the Dunvant Male, the Pontarddulais Male and the Morriston RFC Choir where he is a member of the music staff. Hywel is a chorister and sub-organist at All Saints Church, Oystermouth, Swansea.
Hywel is regularly invited to play for Ballet Russe masterclasses , working with Nona Shestakova, dancer and teacher at the world famous Kirov Ballet, St Petersburg and for music theatre performance at Swansea’s Counterpoint theatre.
