Dunvant Male Choir / Côr Meibion Dyfnant

Dunvant Male Choir

One of the Oldest

The Dunvant Male Choir has the unique achievement of more that 100 years of unbroken history. The choir enjoys the distinction of being one of the oldest in Wales. It was formed in 1895 by a group of miners, steelworkers and quarrymen from the membership of the Ebenezer Congregational Chapel.
It is the archetypal Welsh Choir that sprung naturally out of the community and the mould of the times.

Achievements

Acknowledged universally as one of our more accomplished choirs and under the leadership of Huw Morgan the choir will sustained its tradition of musical excellence. Its achievements are legendry having won all the major choral competitions open to the nations' male choirs.

The choir has performed as the sole male choir at the Royal Albert Hall, the Chapel of Kings College Cambridge, the Chapel of Harvard University, the Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto, and in the ancient cathedrals of Chichester, Exeter, Hereford and Gloucester.

Philosophy

The Dunvant Male Choir pursues the philosophy that music, above all else, is a communicable happiness, and although local surnames dominate, local pride supports and nurtures it, the singing like all great Welsh choirs excels with adrenaline flowing free, be it the polyphonic intricacies of Benjamin Britten or the compelling surge of the great Welsh hymns.

Music is a language understood by all people at all levels.

Patrons

We have a very active Patrons Section with hundreds of members from many parts of the world. Many patrons gather at the Annual Patrons Concert at the Brangwyn Hall, Swansea, to be held on

3rd October 2008.

Dunvant

Dunvant is a small village situated some five miles west of Swansea on the South coast of Wales. Not only does it boast one of Wales' finest choirs but also one of Wales' finest rugby teams.

Web Site

This web site is our acknowledgement of the impact of modern technology on society, and although much of the choirs considerable repertoire has its roots in the past we like to believe that we have our feet firmly planted in the present and with an eye to the future.
Our site, like music itself, will be constantly evolving. Our news and engagement pages will be constantly updated and new pages added as the site is developed.
We offer news, photographs, sample audio tracks from all of our recordings, plus much more to come.
But one of the most exciting aspects of this technology is the ability to afford swift and easy global communication. So whether you are in Dunvant or Durban, Swansea or Swaziland, we would love to hear from you.
